Getting closer to finals footy - Premier Women’s structure explained

Following seven rounds, the Canstaff Women’s Premier competition splits into Premiership and Championship with teams chasing trophy glory.

Contesting the Premiership, Christchurch, University, Lincoln University and High School Old Boys’ will all be in the hunt for overall glory.

The top three took chunks out of each other during the regular season, beating each other to have one loss each, while High School Old Boys’ will be looking to prove their metal after they took fourth spot.

In the Championship, Linwood look the team to beat, picking up three wins in the regular season to secure fifth spot. Kaiapoi are right behind them and will be looking to go one better than they did last season. New side Prebbleton and Mid Canterbury’s Ashburton Celtic round off the competition and remain in the hunt for the Championship title.

Each team will play the other three sides in their competition, with those three games to decide semifinal seeding, with the all-important home semi-final going to be crucial in the hunt for a finals spot.

The finals sees the return of the festival day, with the final set for Matariki weekend on the 25th of June.

All eight Premier teams will take the field at Nga Puna Wai, joined by several other girls and women’s teams as we celebrate the end of another awesome season of Women’s club rugby in Canterbury!
