With the representative season continuing to gather momentum, Canterbury’s red and black jerseys are making their mark across the South Island, with strong performances and plenty of positive results across the representative pathway.

From senior players in the Canterbury B side through to our U18’s as well as our sub union U16 teams, the depth and talent across Canterbury is on show each week, with teams continuing to build towards key tournaments and fixtures.

Canterbury B

The Canterbury B side made an impressive start to their campaign, recording a strong 50–19 victory over Tasman in its opening fixture.

With plenty of senior players putting their hands up throughout the club season and Tane Norton Cup, the side is providing another opportunity for Canterbury players to represent the province and push for higher honours.

This week they head south to take on Southland B in Oamaru, with the side looking to build on their impressive opening performance.

Canterbury U20s

The Canterbury U20s continued their strong South Island U20 campaign with a 28–14 win over Wellington last weekend. The side now heads into its final match of the competition this week, taking on Otago in Timaru.

It has been an exciting season for the U20s, with the competition providing another important step in the pathway towards senior representative and NPC rugby.

Canterbury U19s

The Canterbury U19s finished their campaign in style, securing a convincing 45–21 victory over Otago. The result caps off an outstanding campaign for the side and sees the U19s win the South Island U20 competition,highlighting the strength and depth within Canterbury’s young representative ranks.

The pathway continues beyond the tournament, with a combined Canterbury U19 and U20 team set to travel north to take on an Auckland U20 side on 26 September.

Canterbury U18 Girls

It was a big weekend for the two U18 wāhine sides who had the historic opportunity to play at our new home One New Zealand to kick off their campaign, Canterbury Black coming out on top. Canterbury Red will look to bounce back, facing Tasman U18 in the next round of the South Island Tournament, whilst Canterbury Black have the week off with a bye.

Canterbury U18 Boys

Keep an eye on our social media next week for a team announcement. The squad will go head to head with Tasman on the 3^rd October, followed by a Highlanders XV side on the 9^th October, watch this space!

Sub Union U16 Boys

Our four sub union U16 teams, Metro Red, Metro Black, Ellesmere and North Canterbury have now begun their South Island U16 Tournament campaigns, with the round-robin fixtures getting underway last weekend.

The teams are building towards the tournament playoffs on 4–6 October, with Waihora RFC set to host all 16 teams from across the South Island.

The tournament is another great opportunity for young players to represent their sub unions and experience rugby at the next level.
