In our region, Red and Black isn't just a colour — it's a legacy.
Off the back of an incredible Crusaders season, the reign of Red and Black is set to continue. With 2025 marking a farewell season at Apollo Projects Stadium, it’s time to lock in and be part of history. In 2012, Apollo Projects stood tall as more than a stadium — it became a symbol. A place for hope when we needed it most. Where we could cheer again. Smile again. Believe again. Rugby brought us together — not just as fans, but as a Red and Black nation.
A few weeks ago, we saw it again with a sold-out stadium and the Crusaders lifting the trophy. Our community chanted with pride, a sea of Red and Black everywhere. But this time, it’s our turn. Provincial Rugby is back. With a new generation of Canterbury Rugby on the horizon, our NPC and FPC teams are stacked with players coming off Super Seasons, as well as young guns feeding in through the Canterbury Rugby Representative Pathways. We’ve created real depth across both squads, with full team announcements coming mid-July.
For our Red and Black men, many players will be pulling off one Red and Black jersey for another, vying for more silverware. From the north, we welcome back powerhouse wingers Manasa Mataele, and Ngane Punivai, joining us off the back of seasons with the Chiefs and Hurricanes, respectively. A rookie to the team but no stranger to Canterbury, we welcome Louie Chapman. A born and bred Cantabrian, Chapman played in the Christchurch Boys High XV and is a Premier grade halfback for High School Old Boys. It’s awesome to have the young player pulling on our Red and Black jersey for the first time.
Many of our wāhine are currently on the international stage, wearing the black jersey with pride in both the Black Ferns and Black Ferns XV teams.
Last year, we fell just short — leaving everything out there in the final against the mighty Waikato. This season, we’re looking to go one step further, with a young team leading with determination and immense passion.
Ready to join Red and Black Nation for a season that promises to be unforgettable? We’ve packed our memberships with more benefits than ever before — starting with an exclusive event at Rugby Park in late July. It’s the perfect way to kick off the season, get behind the green fence, and connect with our players and loyal members. “We’ve listened to our fans and expanded our membership offering with a Kids Membership and our Off the Bench digital membership so no one misses out,” said Canterbury Rugby Head of Engagement, Libby Aberhart. “Whether you’re in the stands or supporting from afar, there’s a way for everyone to be part of the team this year.”
Looking the part while keeping warm is key — which is why an exclusive 2025 supporters’ scarf is included, adding to the members’ wardrobe. Something special to wear with pride as we celebrate an unforgettable season and say farewell to Apollo Projects Stadium.
There’s one month until kick-off, when provincial pride steps into the spotlight and rivalries reignite. Now is the time to get your all-access pass to the action, the history, and the future of Canterbury Rugby.
The stage is set. There’s no encore and no second chances. One final act — live at Apollo.
