Around The Grounds

After a soggy week of ground closures and cancellations, the sun’s back out and Community Rugby is full steam ahead for this weekend. No doubt players, coaches, and supporters alike are fizzing to get back into it!

We had a special moment earlier this week at the Volunteering Canterbury Awards, where four of our club legends were recognised for the mahi they’ve put in during the roll out of RX. It was a real win for all the volunteers behind the scenes — the unsung heroes who keep the wheels turning and have managed to keep our game going while navigating the new platform. A special services award also went to Poppy Temple, a long-standing Kaiapoi RFC stalwart and true club legend.

In competition news, it’s hard to believe, but our first Finals Footy of the season is already here! The Luisetti Seeds Combined Country Final promises to be a cracker, with Ashburton Celtic hosting Waihora RFC this Saturday at 2:45pm. These two top-tier teams have earned their spot, and it’s set to be an unmissable clash.

Shirley Club Day

Over the past few weeks, we’ve loved connecting with our clubs as they’ve celebrated their Club Days, a true reminder of what makes this Community so special.
The spirit, the people, the pride, it’s what Red & Black rugby is all about.

As we head into Matariki weekend, there’s no better way to mark the occasion than by heading down to your local club, connecting with friends and whānau, and backing your community. It's an awesome time to connect, reflect, and celebrate on the sidelines. Let’s all keep the sideline energy positive and make it a weekend for the books!

Lastly on behalf of our entire Canterbury Rugby Community…
Go the Crusaders!
