Around the Grounds

The community rugby scene wasn’t quite full noise in the weekend, with King’s Birthday providing a well-earned break for many teams. That said, the rugby didn’t stop entirely – Premier matches continued to bring the heat in the Bascik Transport Canterbury Metro and Luisetti Seeds Combined Country Competitions, as well as in the Miles Toyota 1st XV grade. One of the standout fixtures of the week was the traditional clash between Christ’s College and Christchurch Boys’ High School – a special occasion backed by strong school pride and impressive community support.

As we head into the second half of the season, it’s a good time to reinforce the importance of keeping things positive on the sidelines. We’ve had a couple of challenging moments in recent weeks, so let’s all play our part in upholding the spirit of the game – supporting our players, coaches, and referees with respect and encouragement.

The action ramps up again this weekend with quarterfinals in the Luisetti Seeds Combined Country Competition – Finals footy is on the way and the intensity is building.

Off the field, development continues to be a key focus. Our recent NZ Rugby led Ako Wahine coaching course provided a valuable space for wāhine coaches to connect and grow. Looking ahead, we have three Level 1 Foundation Courses scheduled, offering even more opportunities for our community coaches to develop their skills.

There’s also plenty on offer for our Rangatahi, Under 15 Boys, and Under 16 and Under 18 Boys and Girls development camps are scheduled for the July school holidays. These are fantastic opportunities for young players to learn, connect, and grow their game.

Here’s hoping for a dry Saturday ahead – perfect conditions to get out and enjoy some local rugby. Keep an eye on our social media channels for any weather-related updates or cancellations.
