A new era: 2025 representative coaches set for the season!

Canterbury Rugby is proud to unveil our newly appointed representative coaching groups for the 2025 season—a milestone moment that reflects our commitment to inclusivity, transparency, and growing opportunities across our rugby community.

Earlier this year, we opened “Expressions of Interest” to coaches throughout the province, inviting passionate leaders from all backgrounds to be part of shaping the future of red and black rugby. “It was about giving people the opportunity to put their hat in the ring, people who truly want to make a difference, and help develop our next generation of players” said Community Rugby Manager Michael Sheat. While the recruitment journey took some time, the high calibre of applicants that came through was incredibly promising for the future of our sport in Canterbury. When reflecting on the appointment process, Game Development Lead Rick Whatarau said “It allowed us to reflect, learn, and evolve how we engage with, and support our rugby whānau. We want to continue building a strong, supportive rugby culture in Canterbury and foster a love for the game that lasts a lifetime.”

Today, we’re excited to share the names of those stepping into these vital roles, bringing fresh energy, diverse experience from a range of clubs, and a shared vision to elevate our representative programs. We would like to confirm the following coaches have been selected to lead our teams on a two year appointment.
