The North Canterbury Rugby Operations Manager role oversees and administers all aspects of the North Canterbury Rugby community competitions.  The successful candidate will work closely with the North Canterbury Rugby Sub Union Board, Clubs, Schools and the Canterbury Community Rugby Team.

This position is 25 hours per week for the period from the start date until 28 February 2027. Hours will then increase to 40 hours per week from 1 March - 31 September 2027, and some flexibility in work hours will be required.  

Key Aspects of the role:

- Manage the team entry, registration process and support clubs with the requirements around technology required for team entry, team sheets etc.

- Assist with the compilation and management of the annual budget, prepare quotations for funding applications as directed.

- Manage and develop all Junior, Teenage and Senior competition draws that are meaningful, balanced and competitive and that suit the needs of participants

- Work closely with operational staff in CRU, ERSU & MCRU to ensure combined competitions are run to a high standard.

- Liaise with NCRSU Referee appointments officer

- Manage judicial and complaints processes for North Canterbury in conjunction with CRU staff/ NCRSU Judicial Panel

- Provide effective and efficient leadership, communication and administrative support to the NCRSU Board which includes attendance at all Board meetings, preparation and distribution of the agenda and collating the minutes.

- Assist with the organisation of representative team fixtures and overall programme including eligibility checks, booking venues, visiting team details and sourcing quotes.

- Ensure all stakeholders are kept up to date with what is happening across North Canterbury rugby through various social media/communication platforms.

- Provide support to club volunteers to enable them to be better equipped to deliver community rugby

- Alongside Canterbury Rugby lead programmes to ensure clubs and school have the volunteers, training and best practice guidelines.

Desired Skills and Experience

- Experience in the area of administration and sports administration.

- Experience as a sports volunteer, preferably with a rugby club background, possibly with involvement in administration, planning and financial management.

- Proven experience to operate effectively without supervision

- Is a people person; someone who can communicate (written and oral) with and create strong relationships with a broad range of community-based volunteers.

- Strong IT skills
