Senior Club season coming to a close with Metro Club Finals

Following on from the conclusion of the North Canterbury and Ellesmere Senior competitions last weekend, it is now Metro’s turn to see at the end of the season, with the Premier Reserve, Colts and Senior/Classics finals all taking place this weekend.

This Saturday sees eight finals take place across Christchurch, with 12 different clubs looking to end their season on a high.

In Premier Reserve, HSOB Team 2 will meet the Christchurch Nomads in a hotly contested final at Bob Deans. HSOB have had considerable success in the competition before, while the Nomads are looking to crown their maiden Premier Reserve season with success. HSOB have been there before, winning the title in the last three years, getting over Lyttelton in the semi-finals to earn themselves the right to host this weekend’s Trophy Final.

In the Plate, Shirley will host New Brighton at Burwood Park, with both teams making the most of a late charge for silverware. Both Premier Reserve games kick off at 1pm.

Ngā Puna Wai is the place to be this weekend with all three Colts Finals to take place there on Saturday. At 1pm, Linwood and University will contest the Plate Final, while Lincoln University will host Burnside in the Bowl Final.

The Trophy Final will follow at 2:45pm, with Sumner looking to complete a three-peat against Marist Albion.

Depending on who you talk to, the most important grade in Metro Club Rugby is the Seniors/Classics grade, where the crème de la crème of footballing talent battle it out each weekend. In the Trophy Final, the University Tigers will be looking to end their bounce back season on a high, hosting Marist Albion at Ilam Fields at 2:45pm.

In the Plate, Ōtautahi will host the first final at Lancaster Park since the 2010 ITM Cup Final, hosting the Halswell-Wigram Battlers, while in the Bowl, the Christchurch Choppers have home advantage against the Linwood Dogs Bollocks, both at 2:45pm, to round out a weekend of finals in town.
