Tyler Bleyendaal

101.jpg
Despite the Dutch surname, Tyler Bleyendaal was born and raised in Christchurch. He started off playing soccer when he was younger but by about the age of eight had switched to rugby. It was a wise move as Bleyendaal captained the under-20 New Zealand side which lifted the World Championship title in Argentina in 2010, and was selected in both the Crusaders and Canterbury ITM squads in 2011.
He continues a proud tradition of first-fives from Christchurch Boys’ High School going on to represent Canterbury, following in the footsteps of such greats as Dan Carter, Colin Slade, Stephen Brett, Aaron Mauger and Andrew Mehrtens.
Bleyendaal will play his final season for Canterbury in 2014 before taking up a contract with Ireland's Munster Club.  His intelligent understanding of the game and ability to direct play will be missed by the Canterbury team.
