The son of a former Junior All Black, Braeden Whitelock, George is Canterbury's captain again this season after leading the team to Air New Zealand Cup success in 2009. George captained the 2005 New Zealand Under-19 side and the New Zealand Under-21 side against Canada in 2007. Capable at either number eight or on the openside flank, Whitelock debuted for Otago against Southland in 2007. He earned his first All Blacks cap and scored a try in the win over Italy at AMI Stadium in June, 2009.
