Andy Ellis's last few seasons have been interrupted by injuries to his ribs, toe and head. However, he played extremely well for the Crusaders last season, the new law interpretations favouring his aggressive style of play. The Burnside High School old boy is also a former Canterbury age group cricketer. He is a talented landscape gardener who has won two awards at the last two Ellerslie Flower Shows in Christchurch. Ellis did a sterling job in captaining the Canterbury team to a Ranfurly Shield win over Southland in George Whitelock's absence.
