The Canterbury Rugby Football Union Board has agreed to offer Rob Penney the Canterbury head coaching role for the next two seasons.
The Board agreed at Tuesday night's full meeting to offer Penney the role following a review process which began after Canterbury’s Air New Zealand Cup competition final victory over Wellington on October 25.
Penney said: "I’m honoured to be considered for the position once again and I’m excited about continuing in the role given the positive outcome of discussions with the Board.
"I’m already looking forward to the next Air New Zealand Cup competition and hope to build on Canterbury’s success this season."
Canterbury’s assistant coach John Haggart had decided not to re-apply for the position and will instead pursue other job opportunities. The CRFU will advertise his assistant coach’s position.
Haggart, who has been Canterbury’s assistant coach since 2006, is currently on holiday overseas.
Penney said of Haggart: "John has been fantastic to work with and has made a great contribution to Canterbury rugby. He is moving into another field of endeavour but his passion for rugby and expertise means he won’t be lost to the game completely."
