McCormick and Norton made life members of CRFU

Posted Thursday, 18 February 2010 in News

Canterbury rugby icons Fergie McCormick and Tane Norton were made life members of the CRFU at the recent annual general meeting.

Fergie and Tane are both Canterbury stalwarts and former All Blacks. Both have been heavily involved in playing, coaching and administrating the game here in Canterbury.

Tane is a recent former president of the CRFU.

The pair were also distinguished guests at a recent BBQ put on by the Cantabrians club and their families for the Crusaders team at the team’s Rugby Park HQ.

The objects of the Cantabrians club, as explained in its excellent book, are to promote and play the sport of rugby and to provide sporting, social and cultural functions, activities and recreations for the purpose of fostering the interests of rugby.

More than 100 guests turned out at the BBQ, including Tiny Hill, Fergie McCormick, Tane Norton, Hugh Burry, Bruce McPhail, John Morrissey, Kevin Meates and 90-year-old Wally Argus, who played for the famous NZ Army team the Kiwis after World War 2.
