Canterbury have beaten Tasman 21-10 in a pre-season game at Landsdowne Park in Blenheim today.

The Red and Blacks scored three converted tries through Isaac Ross, Tu Umaga-Marshall (pictured) and Stephen Brett. Colin Slade kicked all three conversions.

Tasman lead 10-7 at halftime thanks to a penalty to Steve Alfeld and try to Shane Christie but Canterbury took control in the second half through better ball maintenance.

Ross began the scoring with a 50m intercept try. Wing Umaga-Marshall finished off a good series of attacks with a run down the right wing and Stephen Brett ran nicely on to a good pass by Slade to dot down.

No8 Nasi Manu injured a knee in the match and could be out for several weeks. Manu had run strongly throughout the match and was a real threat.

Sam Monaghan played well at fullback and Slade looked assured at first-five.

New boys flanker Brendon O'Connor, lock Rob Verbakel and hooker Paul Ngauamo contributed well, as did flanker Matt Todd.

Canterbury's final pre-season match is against Wellington at Lincoln University on Friday, kick-off 2pm.
