It’s round two for the Crusaders catchment provinces, with Canterbury meeting Tasman in the Air New Zealand Cup quarter-final at AMI Stadium on Friday at 7.35pm.
Canterbury got the better of Tasman, directed by Crusaders head coach Todd Blackadder, 44-15 in the round-robin match on Sunday, August 31, with the Patersons, James and Michael, scoring two tries each.
Canterbury, hoping to make their first Air New Zealand Cup final, will not take Tasman lightly, though. Blackadder’s side has performed very well despite the off-the-field distractions about its future in the competition.
Blackadder was proud of the way Tasman beat Manawatu 36-7 in Palmerston North in its final round-robin match on Saturday and his team will be fired up for the big match in Christchurch on Friday night.
Rob Penney’s Canterbury side have been steadily building throughout the Air New Zealand Cup, winning nine in a row after losing to Manawatu in the opening round. There is a feeling that the young team hasn’t put a complete performance together yet though, so there is still plenty to work on.
